The restoration and repurposing study of the Volponi kiln engaged seven student groups who began with an examination of documents attesting to its history and a research on the operational complexities of the structure and its significance in the context of brick production in the previous century. The project primarily focused on preserving the historical memory of the structure, while also emphasizing its integral connection to the city center of Urbino, and studied both vehicular and pedestrian accessibility.
The proposed interventions embrace a diverse approach and explore various options: the establishment of a conference and exhibition center designed to showcase local craftsmanship and provide spaces for academic research and laboratories; the provision of various services including hospitality and dining alongside spacious areas suitable for hosting diverse events, meetings, and outdoor exhibitions.
